Many of my favourite Country artists are not to be found on major labels. Here are some I think worth a visit.

Gail Davies

Cathryn Craig
Nashville singer/songwriter

Jennifer Weatherly
As quoted from Country Music People magazine, from London, England:
" Weatherly herself is a real find. Whether she's boot-scootin'the varnish off a hardwood floor or turnin'the screws on a barroom ballad.
"

Li'l Mo & The Monicats
evokes the '50's both vocally and instrumentally.
The Special Concensus:
..... a four person acoustic bluegrass band that began performing in the Midwest in the spring of 1975.
"The sweet sounds of old time country and the relaxed good-times of upbeat ragtime and blues...Adie Grey's voice is supple and sincere, tracing the lines of contemporary lyrics in song settings reminiscent of country singing in the 1920's." ---Paige Ross, Corpus Christi Caller-Times
Centrefire a 6 piece family band consisting of brothers Mark Epling, Ethan Epling and John Lambert, cousins Chris and Tim Amey and nephew John Staib. With the addition of Kevin Allan on drum tracks & BV they come up with a country gem of a CD. Recorded mixed and mastered in Nashville, they reminded me of the Charlie Daniels Band at times, with their mix of fast paced rocky country, mid paced songs and ballads.
robert martin Robert Martin - a excellent Cd of Texas music.
" Weather The Storm is the debut album for singer/songwriter, Robert Martin, on the independent Rodeo Records label in Fort Worth, Texas. Produced by long time Texas country music entertainer, Steve Stewart, this collection of original songs blends traditional and modern country influences to achieve a truly signature sound. Laced with telecasters, fiddles, honky tonk piano, and steel guitar, this collaboration between artist and producer strums a distinctive harmonious chord that demonstrates a mutual respect for the integrity of country music."

Roy Heinrich another Texas singer/songwriter I discovered recently. Traditonal country music, great band.
" Since coming home to Texas in the fall of 1992, Heinrich has established himself as one of the premier singer/songwriters on the roots country scene, who's been critically acclaimed internationally and locally respected by his peers, as one of the few who’s “the real country deal.” Roy’s band, The Pickups, consists of Austin’s top country players who are quite possibly what he describes as, “The Best Country Band in the World.”

Michael Ballew I had the pleasure of seeing Michael onstage recently at our Americana country Music festival and meeting him afterwards. If you like 'Real Texas country music' I recommend Michael Ballew and the Damn Good Texas Band.
This past year Michael has enjoyed huge successes with two independent chart singles. Ballew became one of that small, select group of recording artists to enter the European Media Services (EMS) Top 40 at #1 with his single "TOP OF THE WORLD". Already building a name for himself in the European market place through tour appearances, Ballew broke over to radio audiences when the title track of his "RODEO COOL" CD enjoyed a 13-week run peaking at #4
Larry Butler another Texan I recently had the pleasure of seeing and meeting live in Scotland. A night of true traditonal downhome country music.
Know as "The Country Gentleman From Cut and Shoot,Texas" Larry has become friends and worked closely with many of the greatest legends in the history of country and western music during much of the twentieth century. He has played roles in the movies,"Honeysuckle Rose" and "Another Pair of Aces",starring his friend Willie Nelson.
rustie blue Rustie Blue was born and raised in the Southeastern part of Ohio, U.S.A., and grew up surrounded by Country Music! She started singing at a very early age, and by the time she was 8 years old, she was singing at her local fairs. Rustie has opened for such great artists has Whispering Bill Anderson, Aaron Tippin, Daryle Singletary, Jeff Carson, Rhett Akins, and David Lee Murphy to name a few.
Rustie has just released her second album entitled, "Enter At Your Own Risk," which is a mix of Traditional Country with a bluesy sound! Rustie's first single on her new album, "Who's She To You," which hit the air waves in January 2002, has already been receiving an enormous amount of airplay and spent 8 weeks in the E.M.S. European Chart and peaked at #17.
Sonny Marshall Sonny Marshall is a native Texan, born and raised in Corpus Christi. At the age of six years old he began playing the guitar and made the decision he wanted to become a country music singer and entertainer. He has performed at various clubs and convention centers located throughout the nation. To further illustrate his popularity he worked for Freddy Fender as the leader of Freddy's band for several years. Sonny has also worked various other shows with such artists as Larry Gatlin, Wynn Stewart, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, and the Riders in the Sky.
His first CD is a great stone country CD of modern songs. All well written and delivered with conviction. Highly recommended.
Gary Gary Fjellgaard got his first break in show business when he barnstormed with Hall of Famer Evan Kemp & his B.C. Trailriders. However, reality was a chainsaw during the week and a guitar on the weekends to support his growing family. These blue collar years and his prairie roots became a basis for many of Gary’s songs. After 30 years as a professional musician, with seven of his songs being picked as Song of the Year, Gary Fjellgaard looks back on a rewarding career and gratefully acknowledges with fondness, the hundreds of towns and cities, and thousands of listeners who have been touched by his music. "He is a poet of the extravagantly good side of the human spirit; breathtakingly sane and compassionate.”
Heather Richards Heather Richards is a musical creator for a recipe of broken hearts and real life experiences. The upstate NY artist has voyaged her share of life’s delights and pains-mostly lessons of the heart, and contrary to her lessons, she’s grasped even the most bittersweet of remembrances and brought them to life through her songs. Heather’s infectious style successfully intertwines traditional country, contemporary country and modern country, respectively and brings forth to its audience a simplistic connection. Heather’s songs are a joy for their clarity and understanding and so swiftly flows from the song to the listener. In fact, all of Heather’s music comes from her own struggles, heart and pen, making her an Artists Artist in the truest sense of the definition.
Dale Watson
"I'm one of Dale's biggest fans - I enjoy all his records and think he's great. I think there's a great deal of similarity between Dale and Waylon and myself...Kris and all the guys who just want to play their music and not have to go through all the bullshit. Dale stays true to what he believes in...whatever they say made me and Waylon 'Outlaws,' I think he's the same...if WE were, HE is." ..Willie Nelson
Valerie Smith
"It has been said that watching Valerie Smith perform is "like being an eye-witness to a thermonuclear explosion!" That's a fair assessment--Valerie herself refers to her high energy performances as "bluegrass aerobics". Apt to pick up a fiddle or guitar and play along with her band, this singer/songwriter is as versatile and talented as she is entertaining. "
From Texas, John has played fiddle on many recordings, now building a career across Europe
as solo singer.

Peggy Rains
Peggy Rains launched her career in 1998 with the release of her first album "It's a Good Day" a. Her most treasured honor came when she was nominated and won the Academy of Western Artists Will Rogers Award for Western Swing Female Vocalist of the Year.
Joni Harms
" Joni Harms is a down-home cowgirl, and it shows in the way she sings, dresses and carries herself. Her Warner Western album, Cowgirl Dreams, is the work of a visionary artist who has her own signature style "
Erin Hay..
..has recently completed her second independent album called Honky Tonk Heaven. It's fourteen cuts of the music she loves, music she hopes would have made Mr. Acuff proud.
Jessica Phillips
With that extraordinarily familiar sound of traditional American Country Music uniquely blended with a whole lot of heart, a touch of country soul, and an unmatched love for performing,

Geronimo Travino
and his band are known for a real traditonal honky tonk sound.
