NORMAN BORLAND is a name that many readers, especially in the West of Scotland will recognise. Norman has just released his second album, One In A Million”, which, although recorded at Stealth Recording Studio in Glasgow, is aimed at his native Irish market. The album features 15 songs, which only a few songs are instantly recognisable. These include John Denver’s “Back Home Again” and “Somedays Are Diamonds”, and Gail Davies’ “Someone Is Looking For Someone Like You”. There’s also George Strait’s “Love Without End, Amen”, Buck Owens’ “Roll Out The Red Carpet” and the more recent Josh Turner hit “Me & God”. Norman does very good covers of each of them. The title track closes the album. It’s a sentimental little song about babies. Norman does a good version, without being over sentimental. With a rich vocal style like Mick Flavin, it’s no surprise that he really does a good job on “The Rarest Flowers”. I also enjoyed “Highway Of Life” and “The Same Way You Came In “. Norman’s in fine voice throughout the album, which is well worth a listen! Stewar Fenwick in CMDS magazine
Norman is a down to earth guy. I've spoke to Norman a few times and he is a real gent, you wont get a nicer guy in the country music scene at the moment
Cross Country” his debut fourteen track collection was recorded at Stealth Recording Studio in Glasgow and includes ever-popular country titles from “I Need You” to “Working Man” and from “I'll Waltz You Home” to “Ashes of Love”, an appealing sing along collection that should appeal the country music dee-jay's on both sides of the Irish Sea.
Another year on his follow up album "One in a Million" is released. I played this on my Radio Show yesterday (10th June 08) and this album will be my album of the week this coming Tuesday.
Folks Norman is going to a big Star in the making and I personally would like to wish Norman all the very best with the music. DJ Stephen Doherty Country MusicI
One In A million the latest release from Norman - 15 excellent track including two brand new track, the uptempo Far Away and the title track a beautiful song One in A Million. Norman has picked songs that have not been heard lately and some of his personal favourites from his favourite artsits. My personal favourites are Some Days Are Diamonds and The Same Way You Came In. An excellent album and a fine follow up to Cross Country. Iain
Cross Country is the new solo album released this month from Norman Borland, one half of the popular duo Toe The Line. This fourteen track CD is a refreshing change from all the usual linedance favourites we hear every week. It is a mix of easy listening Country & Irish songs, some I know some I have not heard before. Norrman's Irish roots come through on the Irish tracks reminding me of the many Irish acts I used to listen to. Tracks include: Haggard's Mamma Tried, and a favourite of mine Sing Me Back Home, Glen Campbell's The Hand That Rocked The Cradle, Rita Mc Neil's Working Man, George Strait I Can Still Make Cheyenne from Ireland Big Tom's Sunset Years of Life. Track six sums up this album it is Kick Ass Country.
Backed by a group of top local musicians, I love the steel guitar by one of Scotland's top steel players Willie Gamble, with Willie's son Fraser on lead guitar and Ian Fleming on drums and Norman's partner from Toe The Line, Frank Doyle on Bass, this is a most listenable album of pure Country with some Irish country tracks and is one the best I have heard from a local band in years.
