are a dynamic Scottish duo comprised of experienced songwriters
|
|
David Latto and Gavin Brady.
|
Drawing their influences from a diverse range of artists and songwriters- their largely acoustic sound taps into the vastness of the American country music tradition whilst paying respect to their Scottish roots.
Their music has so far been received well culminating in frequent national airplaychampioned by Iain Anderson (BBC Radio Scotland) and Ralph McLean (BBC RadioUlster).
David Latto's début EP -Three Thousand Miles From Nashville- the title track is a tribute to the Shetland fisherman Thomas Fraser, whose remarkable cache of Jimmie Rodgers inspired recordings only came to the attention of a wider audience years after death.
On this song, Latto evinces a similar ability to tap into the melodic and lyrical traditions of a culture three thousand miles from his home and imbue it with vitality
Latto's voice is particularly compelling, warm and resonant, with just a touch of his native accent evident to add a wistful touch whilst the sparse arrangements, primarily just voice and guitar with a few harmonies and lead lines overdubbed, really allow the songs to shine. Of the four tracks here, three are originals. Americana UK
'A very nice calling card, then, from David Latto and it's in the finest tradition of Scottish country-based music.' Flyin’ Shoe Reviews |

Thomas had been a fisherman and crofter - ordinary you might say - yet he left a stunning legacy: thousands of songs recorded at home in his small croft house using a reel-to-reel recorder. Not music traditionally associated with Shetland entirely, for Thomas was an exponent of the country and blues styles and his passion was the guitar.
His tapes lay undisturbed for 25 years until his Grandson discovered them and inspired by what he heard, compiled a 25-track CD release in 2002. The release of ' Long Gone Lonesome Blues' gave Thomas Fraser the recognition he so richly deserved. The critics called it "one of the most remarkable stories in recording history" and "some of the greatest American music you will hear". Two more discs soon followed: 'You and My Old Guitar' (2003) and 'Treasure Untold' (2005).

The 5th Cd in the collection
will be launched at the Thomas Fraser Memorial Festival
on Thursday 11th November.

Brian Hughes is without doubt one of the UK's finest songwriters.
From the beautiful shores of Loch Lomond, Scotland, they have established themselves as a ‘hot ticket act' in the UK festival scene where they have set the standard in original material shows, and are now viewed as contenders for the ‘Next Big Thing'.
With three successful album releases behind them, and a fourth My Kind Of Paradise now released Brian's songs are the rock on which the live performance is built. Wonderful musicianship accompanied with professional attitude and commitment guarantees no one leaves a LoneShark show not impressed, this being clearly evident by the evergrowing fanbase. The songs have been recognised by leading US music house Atlanta Music Group who immediately offered Brian a songwriter contract. He was thereafter invited to travel Stateside to play shows in Nashville, Tennessee and Atlanta. Georgia. website |

(formerly Colorado, Geordie Jack and Caledonia)
From the Highlands come the award winning band THE JACKS (formerly known as COLORADO).
Members of the band have changed over the time, but the distinctive core sound has stayed. The band is centred around the JACK family from the small village of Golspie and features KEVIN & TREVOR JACK sons of original member GEORDIE JACK along with co-founder DADO DUNCAN, who are both still core to the band. Since they formed Colorado in 1978 the band have toured in over 26 coutries with some of the biggest names in country at many famous venues including the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. They have released 10 albums, featured on radio, TV and were voted top UK country band for 9 years in succession. Playing original and favourite songs, the crowds love the party good time atmosphere which the band brings to the stage and these guys always leave a happy audience. They blend country, with folk and rock using fiddle, mandolin, banjo, guitars, accordion, drums & thick harmony vocals like no other band.
By public demand, they are actively going from strength to strength, with fresh recordings and high-energy performances at festivals in the U.K. and Europe this year and next. The JACKS excite their audiences with a wide range of self-penned material and popular favourites. They stir their audiences with their up-tempo songs and tunes, doubling up on vocal harmonies and instrumentals featuring banjo, mandolin and fiddle on top of a solid back-line drums, bass, acoustic and lead guitars. Constantly changing lead instruments adds variety to their solid tight harmonies. Very much a professional standard country based band with folk and rock influences. |
