'CROSS COUNTRY'
with Norman Borland

Cross Country is the new solo album released this month from Norman Borland, one half of the popular duo Toe The Line. This fourteen track CD is a refreshing change from all the usual linedance favourites we hear every week. It is a mix of easy listening Country & Irish songs, some I know some I have not heard before. .Norrie's Irish roots come through on the Irish tracks reminding me of the many Irish acts I used to listen to. Tracks include: Haggard's Mamma Tried, and a favourite of mine Sing Me Back Home, Glen Campbell's The Hand That Rocked The Cradle, Rita McNeil's Working Man, George Strait I Can Still Make Cheyenne from Ireland Big Tom's Sunset Years of Life. Track six sums up this album it is Kick Asss Country.
Backed by a group of top local musicians, I love the steel guitar by one of Scotland's top steel players Willie Gamble, with Willie's son Fraser on lead guitar and Ian Fleming on drums and Norrie's partner from Toe The Line, Frank Doyle on Bass, this is a most listenable album of pure Country with some Irish country tracks and is one the best I have heard from a local band in years.

HANK MULDOON
AND THE HANGOVERS

In 1989 following a trip to Memphis and Nashville, Hank Muldoon formed ‘The Muldoon Brothers’ – an all out 100 mph Hillbilly style band.  They won their first award as the best newcomers to the circuit in 1992.

10 years of touring ‘the four corners’ and enjoying much acclaim and TV appearances led to a natural break which allowed the band members to concentrate on personal stuff and other projects for a while.

Reformed as ‘Hank Muldoon and the Hangovers’ in early 2007 with the addition of 2 new members they are already enjoying much success and building a good following across the country.  2008 sees them playing large venues and festivals with repeat bookings for more than 12 months in advance!

Further information can be found on their website

ONEDAY40
SCOTS DOMINATE MYSPACE
SOUTHERN ROCK and AMERICANA CHARTS
Whilst The Eagles debate the release of their first studio album for years, it's a
Scots band that are setting the pace in the genres that the Eagles call their own.

Although relatively new to Myspace, OneDay40 are sitting comfortably in top 10 slots in both genres, with more fans than any other UK band, and that's before they release their much awaited debut album "Unfinished Business" on May 3rd.

Recorded at the famous Park Lane Studios on the south side of Glasgow under the watchful eyes of Love and Money keyboardist Paul McGeechan, the album showcases a diversity of musical talent and a mastery of the art of songwriting. Legendary Glasgow voice Horse sings a duet with the band, pedal steel is provided (sparingly !) by Zac Ware of the Proclaimers, and lead guitar duties are shared by Glasgow bluesman Alan Nimmo and outstanding young talent Martin Kelly of The Endrick Brothers. The OneDay40 trademark multi-part harmonies are augmented on this recording by vocalist Tracey Braithwaite (KT Tunstall, Horse).

Brian Hughes and the LoneSharks

Brian Hughes are without doubt one of the UK's finest original material ‘Americana' bands.

From the beautiful shores of Loch Lomond, Scotland, they have established themselves as a ‘hot ticket act' in the UK festival scene where they have set the standard in original material shows, and are now viewed as contenders for the ‘Next Big Thing'.

With three successful album releases behind them, and a fourth currently in production, Brian's songs are the rock on which the live performance is built. Wonderful musicianship accompanied with professional attitude and commitment guarantees no one leaves a LoneShark show not impressed, this being clearly evident by the evergrowing fanbase.

The songs have been recognised by leading US music house Atlanta Music Group who immediately offered Brian a songwriter contract. He was thereafter invited to travel Stateside to play shows in Nashville, Tennessee and Atlanta. Georgia.

Members also currently receive, in the April of their subscription year, a free copy of the BCMA yearbook - a comprehensive "who's who" and "what's what" on the UK country music scene . Non-members may purchase a copy for £8.00 post-paid, but, as we said, members get it FREE!

In addition, members are offered the exciting opportunity to visit the United States on one of the BCMA's legendary annual trips. [ website ]

The Thomas Fraser story is a remarkable piece of Scottish music history. From 1953 - 1977 he recorded thousands of songs at his home, in Burra Isle Shetland,on a reel-to-reel tape recorder.
" Thomas’ musical idol was without doubt the ‘singing brakeman’, Jimmie Rodgers. At an early age, Thomas constantly practised Rodgers’ style, perfecting the yodeling and guitar playing to such an extent that the similarity would, at times, become uncanny".
25 years later we get to hear 25 tracks of these lost recordings on CD. A fascinating collection of recordings featuring Thomas's clear strong voice and guitar picking featuring songs of Jimmy Rogers, Hank Williams, Hank Snow, and other early country songs.
Now we get a third CD of long lost recordings that have come to light from friends attics.
Another great collection of 25 songs from this remarkable man.
Released 11th November 2005
